Conflicts of Interest

Institute for Advanced Materials Research Press is committed to transparency and integrity in scholarly publishing. All authors are required to include a Competing Interests Statement when submitting a manuscript.

The existence of a competing interest does not automatically prevent a manuscript from being considered or published. Disclosure enables editors, reviewers, and readers to assess the research and its interpretation with a clear understanding of any relationships or circumstances that could potentially influence—or reasonably be perceived to influence—the work.

Where no competing interests exist, authors must include the following statement:

“No competing interests were disclosed.”

Definition of Competing Interests

A competing interest may arise when an author’s financial, professional, institutional, personal, political, religious, or ideological relationships could influence—or reasonably appear to influence—the design, conduct, analysis, interpretation, reporting, review, or publication of research.

Competing interests may be financial or non-financial and include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial relationships: Receipt of research funding, grants, salaries, consultancy fees, honoraria, travel support, gifts, or other compensation from an organization that may benefit or be disadvantaged by the publication of the research.

  • Financial ownership: Ownership of stocks, shares, equity, or other financial interests in an organization that may gain or lose financially as a result of the research findings.

  • Patents and intellectual property: Existing, pending, or planned patents, patent applications, licenses, royalties, or other intellectual-property interests held by the authors, their employers, or their funding organizations that relate to the submitted work.

  • Professional and institutional relationships: Employment, advisory roles, board membership, consultancy arrangements, official affiliations, or membership in organizations or interest groups relevant to the subject of the manuscript.

  • Personal and non-financial interests: Personal relationships, professional competition, academic disputes, or other circumstances that could affect—or reasonably appear to affect—an author’s judgment.

  • Political, religious, or ideological interests: Political, religious, ideological, or advocacy positions that may be directly relevant to the subject, interpretation, or conclusions of the submitted work.

Commercially Sponsored Research

Authors affiliated with materials manufacturers, chemical companies, energy companies, technology developers, equipment manufacturers, software providers, or other commercial organizations that sponsor or support laboratory studies, industrial research, field testing, or materials-development projects, or related research must disclose these relationships during submission.

The Competing Interests Statement must clearly describe:

  • The name of the relevant organization.

  • The nature of each author’s relationship with that organization.

  • Any financial or non-financial support received.

  • The sponsor’s role in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or decision to submit the work for publication.

If the sponsor had no involvement in these activities, this should be stated explicitly.

Author Responsibility

It is the responsibility of all authors to provide complete, accurate, and current competing-interest information at the time of submission. The corresponding author must ensure that disclosures from all co-authors are included.

Authors must notify the journal promptly if a relevant competing interest arises or becomes known during peer review or after publication.

Failure to disclose a relevant competing interest may result in editorial action, including publication of a correction, expression of concern, or other action considered appropriate under the journal’s publication-ethics policies.
