Institute for Advanced Materials Research Press recognizes the potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to support scholarly communication and research. To protect transparency, confidentiality, scientific accuracy, and research integrity, the following requirements apply across all Institute for Advanced Materials Research Press journals.
Authors must disclose any substantive use of GenAI in preparing or developing a manuscript. The disclosure should identify the tool and explain its purpose.
Use for writing, editing, or translation should be reported in the Acknowledgements. Use in data analysis, coding, model development, microscopy or spectroscopy analysis, materials-image processing, figure generation, or other research activities must be described in the Methods section.
GenAI may be used to support language improvement, formatting, coding, analysis, or research methods, provided that its use is transparent, ethically appropriate, and independently verified by the authors.
Where AI forms part of the research methodology, authors must provide sufficient information about the tool, input data, procedures, validation methods, and limitations to support scientific evaluation.
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, citations, data, images, conclusions, and ethical integrity of the submitted work.
Authors must verify all AI-assisted output and ensure that it does not contain fabricated information, false references, plagiarism, bias, or copyright violations.
Confidential manuscripts, unpublished experimental results, proprietary materials data, restricted industrial datasets, confidential peer-review material, or information protected by contractual or intellectual-property obligations must not be uploaded to external AI systems without appropriate authorization and adequate security safeguards.
Submitted manuscripts are confidential. Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscript content to an AI system where confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
Any authorized use of AI during peer review or editorial processing must be disclosed. AI must not replace independent expert assessment or make final editorial decisions.
Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use will be evaluated according to its nature and effect on the integrity of the manuscript. Institute for Advanced Materials Research Press may request clarification or correction, return the manuscript for revision, reject the submission, withdraw acceptance, or take appropriate post-publication action.
