Editorial Policies

Journal of Computational and Data-Driven Materials Engineering is committed to maintaining academic integrity, editorial independence, fairness, confidentiality, and transparency throughout the publication process.

Editorial Decision-Making

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the final decision to accept, request revision of, or reject a manuscript. Decisions are based on the manuscript’s originality, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, and the reports of independent reviewers.

Although reviewer recommendations are carefully considered, they are advisory and do not determine the final decision. Where reports conflict or further expertise is required, the Editor may seek an additional independent review.

Double-Blind Peer Review

All eligible manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another. Peer review assists the editorial team in reaching fair, evidence-based decisions and provides authors with constructive feedback to improve their manuscripts.

Reviewer reports are normally shared with authors together with the editorial decision. Recommendations for revision or rejection should clearly identify the principal scientific, methodological, or ethical concerns affecting the manuscript.

Editorial Independence and Conflicts of Interest

Editorial decisions are made independently and solely on scholarly merit. Commercial, financial, institutional, geographic, political, or personal considerations must not influence the evaluation of a manuscript.

Editors must not participate in decisions concerning manuscripts that they have authored, co-authored, or for which they have a personal, professional, or financial conflict of interest. Such manuscripts will be assigned to an independent editor and evaluated through the journal’s standard peer-review process. The publisher does not interfere with individual editorial decisions.

Confidentiality and Fairness

Editors and reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, correspondence, and related materials as confidential. Unpublished information must not be disclosed or used for personal or professional advantage.

All manuscripts must be evaluated fairly and without discrimination based on the authors’ nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, ethnicity, political views, or other personal characteristics unrelated to scholarly assessment.

Ethical Concerns and Misconduct

A substantiated scientific or ethical concern raised by an editor or reviewer may result in a request for clarification, additional documentation, revision, rejection, or a formal investigation. Suspected plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, unethical research, or manipulation of the peer-review process will be handled in accordance with the journal’s policies and relevant publication-ethics guidance.

Where misconduct is confirmed, the journal may take appropriate action, including rejecting the manuscript, issuing a correction or retraction, restricting future submissions, or notifying the authors’ institution, funder, or relevant ethics committee. Any action will be proportionate to the seriousness of the matter and taken following an appropriate review.

Publication-Ethics Framework

The journal’s editorial practices are guided by the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), together with its established editorial and publishing policies. These standards are applied consistently while allowing the editorial team to consider the specific requirements of research involving artificial intelligence, materials data, autonomous experimentation, computational modeling, advanced characterization, and industrial materials applications.
