Research Ethics and Responsible Materials Research

Journal of Computational and Data-Driven Materials Engineering requires all research to comply with applicable ethical, institutional, legal, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Research involving materials synthesis, characterization, processing, testing, or manufacturing must follow appropriate laboratory, occupational, chemical, environmental, and hazardous-material safety standards. Claims concerning sustainability, recyclability, environmental impact, or lifecycle performance must be supported by appropriate evidence.

Research involving human participants, animals, biological materials, or identifiable personal information is considered only where it has a clear connection to artificial intelligence and materials science. Authors must obtain all required approvals, permissions, and informed consent before beginning the research and must include the relevant compliance statements in the manuscript. Patient case reports, clinical trials, diagnostic studies, treatment studies, and primarily medical research are outside the journal’s scope.

Authors using artificial intelligence, materials datasets, computational models, software, microscopy, spectroscopy, or other characterization data must report their methods transparently and preserve the integrity of their data and images. Data fabrication, falsification, misleading image manipulation, unauthorized data use, and misrepresentation of computational results constitute research misconduct.

Depending on the study, authors may be required to provide ethics approval, animal-welfare, laboratory-safety, environmental-compliance, data-availability, code-availability, funding, competing-interests, author-contribution, and generative-AI statements.

The journal may request supporting documentation and may suspend review, reject a manuscript, withdraw acceptance, or take appropriate post-publication action when adequate evidence of compliance is not provided.

This policy should be read together with the publisher’s Research Ethics and Regulatory Compliance Policy.
